Studio Five Introduction to Bookbinding - Six day course - Cost £600
This course may be split into three sessions of two days each including weekends.

First day: the student will be introduced to the Studio and equipment that will
be used throughout the course.

During the first day the student will be shown by demonstration the making of a
project style binding.
The book will be A4 portrait in size and hard bound, subjects covered will include;

Paper decoration                                                         
Material Manipulation
Correct use of hand tools
Various properties of paper
Names of parts of the book
Introduction to typeset and label making

And all relevant Health and Safety issues pertaining to the
subjects covered.

Second day: the student will make a slip case for the previous day's book.
Subjects covered will include;

Board lamination techniques
Internal corners
Structure

It is expected that the student will go on to produce two further books which explore two
further types of book construction, limp leather work and recycling techniques.

Intermediate Section - Four days

Following on from the introductory section, the student can progress to the  
next level which will explore aspects of multi-sectional case binding.

Following demonstrations, the student will make a minimum of two books.
One will be a flat back with sewn-on tapes, the other being a rounded
and backed book with secondary sewing.
